North Woods
Fantastic novel full of poesy and strength, adventures and a touch of fantastic but most of all, the hero of this novel, is absolutely perfect. This patch of woods lost in what is now Massachussetts, used to be part of native nations territory. Over 300 years or so, humans of various kind and quality lived here, made wonder with apples, enjoyed the lush variety of trees, good old and unblemished by diseases trees.
This humans built lives, somme good, some awfully wrong, but the North Woods remained. Not unchanged, life more than loss is change, but there nor welcoming, nor unwelcoming, just existing.
Some chapters are both fasinating and horrifying, like the arrival of bugs and fungi soon to be the slow death of trees families, like chestnut or beech or elm.
This is a must read!
